Magoffin Home's restoration makes preservation part of the story
The historic house is closed through 2027, while the open visitor center and virtual tour offer ways to stay connected to its borderlands history.

A historic adobe home survives because someone keeps caring for it. At Magoffin Home State Historic Site, that continuing work is now a visible part of its public story: the Texas Historical Commission says the house will remain closed through 2027 during restoration, while its visitor center is open.
The site interprets a multicultural family whose life intersected with the development of the Southwest borderlands. During the closure, the commission's interactive virtual tour offers a way to explore that history from home. It also invites researchers to contact staff to arrange access to the Magoffin Home archives.
The current site page lists the visitor center at 1117 Magoffin Avenue, with Tuesday–Saturday hours of 9 a.m.–4 p.m. Call 915-533-5147 to confirm available services, fees and any special program before visiting. Ordinary historic-house tours should not be assumed to continue during the restoration closure.
Special hard-hat events, when offered on the official calendar, have their own permission and booking arrangements; they are not general access to a work site. For a virtual visit, pay attention to a wall, doorway or room arrangement and ask what materials and maintenance let it endure. Preservation becomes easier to understand when the building's survival is treated as an ongoing job.
