A border can be a political line, a daily experience and a subject that artists approach from different directions. The 2026 Border Biennial / Bienal Fronteriza takes Imagining the Border as its theme, inviting visitors to examine familiar narratives through contemporary work from the region.
The exhibition includes thirty-one artists and two collectives representing Arizona, Chihuahua, New Mexico and Texas. Organized across El Paso Museum of Art and Museo de Arte de Ciudad Juárez, the edition brings together more than eighty artworks across the two institutions. That is the combined exhibition scope, rather than a count promised inside one building.
El Paso Museum of Art lists the exhibition through May 2, 2027 in its Woody and Gayle Hunt Family Gallery. Museum admission is free at One Arts Festival Plaza. Current hours are Wednesday–Saturday, 10 a.m.–6 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m.–3 p.m.; Monday, Tuesday and major holidays are closed.
Begin with the El Paso presentation as a complete visit in its own right. Follow one work's material choices, then ask how its perspective compares with another nearby. Visiting the Ciudad Juárez institution requires separate travel and entry planning. Neither shared curatorship nor physical proximity makes the two locations a single admission or transportation arrangement.
